| 内容記述 | 本稿は，シンガポールにおける2020 年の新型コロナウイルス感染拡大期を振り返るものである．シンガポールの初期の新型コロナウイルス感染防止対策は，欧米メディアから「優等生」と評価されていた．しかし，外国人建設労働者の滞在するドミトリーで次々とクラスターが発生し，その感染封じ込めに追われることになる．高学歴化が進み，シンガポール人が就きたがらない低賃金の仕事や肉体労働は，外国人労働力頼みである．しかし，その外国人労働者の居住環境は，依然として劣悪で改善されていなかったことが露呈したのである．ウイルス感染対策のなかで移民労働者はどう扱われてきたかを報告する． | |||||

| 内容記述 | This report is a reflection based on the control measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Singapore as of 2020. The early stage of successful containment, called the “Circuit Breaker,” was rated highly as “impeccable” by the western media. Nevertheless, the authorities were subsequently faced with an overwhelming occurrence of COVID-19 clusters in the migrant workers’ dormitories. The highly-educated Singaporeans are not likely to take up any low-paid job or physical work, which makes often them dependent on cheaper foreign labour. The pandemic has exposed the plight of such migrant workers and their abominable living conditions, which remains without any sign of improvement. | |||||
